What are Polyethylene Tanks?

Made of non-toxic material, polyethylene tanks are used for water storage, industrial fire protection, and wastewater collection. Robust and durable, polyethylene is derived from monomer ethyne, which is polymerized to form the final product. Ethyne molecules undergo a chemical reaction leading to the formation of polymers – thus, polyethylene is made from three-dimensional polymer fibers. A popular material, it has several uses in households and also is used to make tanks.

Advantages:

Polyethylene tanks are highly flexible and have a long life. They are resistant to harsh weather conditions and can be used repetitively. 

These are constructed in a manner that prevents any leakage. For instance, they can be safely used to store chemical products and petroleum substances without fears of seepage.

Displaying versatility in production, polyethylene tanks come in many dimensions, shapes, and sizes depending on where and how they need to be installed. While being customized to suit different volumes, you will find them in vertical, horizontal, and other forms. 

Displaying excellent resistance to corrosion, the tanks are primary choices for harsh materials such as chemical compounds and acids.

These affordable tanks are also resilient to extreme temperatures, tolerating ranges between – 700 to 450. With thermal insulating properties, polyethylene tanks perform exceptionally well in mountainous areas, especially when they are equipped with triple and quadruple walls. 

The tanks are non-erosive, moisture resistant, and insusceptible to damage during natural disasters such as earthquakes. 

As an inert material, it does not react when in contact with other substances, making it suitable for storing drinking water without impacting taste or odor. 

Manufacturing:

As mentioned before, polyethylene tanks are made up of polymers, which are strong and durable. A process called rotational molding is used to manufacture the tanks where polyethylene powder is added to a mold, placed in a container, and heated up to melt it. The container is then rotated so that the PE covers the mold. Several layers of substance are formed, after which they are given the desired shape and size quickly and cost-effectively. The process could take anywhere between half an hour to 2 hours. In appearance, it is no different than any other contemporary tank. However, there are corrugated sides, providing the tank additional strength, a property that is especially useful for larger tanks. Furthermore, they are lighter than others making movement and transportation extremely easy.
